DIY - grow grapes!

Did you know that 99% of grapes in the US grow in Napa Valley? I was fortunate to obtain some cuttings, and they are growing here at the CCAG.

Here's how to do it. Grape cutting should be taken in the fall or early winter when the branches are First, find a local grape tree or one you are growing. If you can't, buy one from the nursery. Then, use pliers to cut from the bottom of a node. A node is simply the place on a plant where new growth sprouts from the side. When a node is planted, roots can form. You can either plant the cutting in soil with root hormone, or in water. We choose water because you can see the process of the roots through the glass. Put it near a sunny area like a window, and watch it root! Pretty simple, huh? When roots appear, repot in compost mix. In August, you might harvest a handful of grapes.
